Mike has written weekly, daily and monthly columns for numerous media outlets around the world, ranging from Screen International, Moving Pictures International, Istra Danas and Vogue.

Since October 2017 until present. Mike has served on the editorial board of the European Film Academy’s tri-annual publication on subjects near and dear to the heart of the European Film Academy and the European film industry.

Writing also leader articles and feature columns, Mike has brought the crucial subjects of gender equality, sustainability, film makers at risk, all in the context of the state of and the future for European cinema in the world.

Istra Danas

The Croatian monthly magazine "Istria today" In November 2003, the Istrian Development Agency launched the project of publishing a regional monthly magazine "Istria today." During 2003, 2004 and 2005. "Istria today," affirmed and profiled in a visually very distinctive economic monthly interesting to a wider circle of readers.

Mike wrote a monthly column called The Fool on the Hill. In it he looked at world events through the prism of life in a tiny village in Istria. He eventually pulled all the articles together into a book entitled "The Fool on The Hill - Low altitude thinking" by Mike Downey.

Moving Pictures

Throughout his tenure at Moving Pictures, Mike contributed on a wide range of subjects and for a few years wrote a satirical column in the Moving Pictures Cannes Dailies entitled “Downey and Dirty”.

Vogue

Vogue is an American fashion and lifestyle magazine made up of many components including fashion, beauty, culture, living, and runway.

Vogue began as a weekly newspaper in 1892 in the United States, before becoming a monthly publication years later. Mike has over the years contributed to various international editions of Vogue notably Vogue Spain, for which he did a regular column featuring a wide range of celebrity interviews in the nineties.
